Welcome to Class 1 (reception)
A Note to Parents
In Class One this half term our topic is 'Do cows drink milk?'. We will be learning all about farming and animals, as well as revisiting what we learned about in our previous topic. The children will be able to share and discuss their existing knowledge about this topic and find out more using books, technology and by listening to others.
In order to make the transition to cursive (joined) handwriting easier later on in school, Reception class will now be practising precursive handwriting. This will allow the children to see where the letters join together and also allows the pencil to flow more freely without coming off the paper. If you have any questions about this, please don't hesitate to come and ask. Here are some links that could help you to help your child practise at home:
PE is still taking place on a Tuesday morning. This term they are learning dance and their song is 'I just can't wait to be king' from The Lion King.
The children read to an adult in school at least once a week, often more. Reading books are changed as often as possible. Children should be encouraged to read their reading book more than once in order to first, decode the words, then, recognise and remember words and finally, to think about the story line and characters.
Show and Tell
Show and Tell is on a Monday afternoon. Children are welcome to bring something special in to show and talk about with their friends.
As of Monday 16th March there will be a student teacher to help in our class. Miss Tulley is completing her PGCE and will be supporting the children's learning as part of our Early Years Team. We are looking forward to welcoming her next week.
Thank you for your continued support.
