Welcome to Class 4

In Class 4 we have Year 5 and Year 6.

A note from Mrs Quirk and Miss Smith… Welcome to Class Four! I hope you all had a relaxing summer break and that the children are excited to be in their new class. I am   really looking forward to getting back into a routine, great lessons and achieving great success with year 5 & 6. I have worked hard to create a warm atmosphere in class with a lot of fun and laughter but lots of learning too. Independence and a hardworking attitude are the key to success in the upper juniors. As with last year, I will be class sharing with Miss Smith. I will be in school Monday to Thursday, with Miss Smith teaching the class on Fridays.

PE - Lessons are on Tuesday and Friday delivered by the Lancashire Sports Partnership.

Music - Lancashire Music Service will take the Class for music lessons on   Monday afternoons.  

Reading— We have weekly guided reading sessions in which I listen to children read within a group, in addition, we try to listen to the children individually each week, recording comments in the yellow reading record. The emphasis is on developing  reading for pleasure and  children’s understanding of a book, its plots, sub plots and character analysis.  Pupils are free to choose from the school library, or your child may bring a book in from home.  The most important thing  is that your child  has a book they will enjoy reading  but is suitably challenging.

Spellings  - Each week  children will be allocated a set of 10 spellings on spelling shed for them to learn over the week. On a Thursday the  children will be tested on ten of those words.

Year 6 -  The deadline for applying for your High School place is 31st October.  We will shortly be sending out the details regarding the process for application for High School.  If you are planning to apply to St Bede’s they require a copy of your child’s baptism certificate as part of the   application.
