Class 1

Welcome to Class 1

The Early Years class is taught by Miss Cheetham and Miss Hesketh

A very warm welcome to Class 1!
Our Early Years Class is taught by Miss Cheetham (Monday- Thursday) and Miss Hesketh (Friday). Miss Hesketh is the class TA on Monday - Thursday mornings.

We aspire to create a happy, safe and fun learning environment where our children are encouraged to develop their imagination, curiosity and sense of self. We whole-heartedly believe in creating a space which promotes children to develop a love of learning that will continue with them throughout their journey at St John’s Catholic Primary School. We have created our bespoke curriculum centred around the 7 areas of learning and adapt this according to Class 1’s interests.

This half term in Reception
Our topic this half term is “People Who Help Us”. We’ll be learning all about the important jobs people do in our community and how they help to keep us safe, healthy, and happy. The children will have opportunities to explore different roles through play, stories, and visits from real-life helpers!

In English, we are focusing on penguins. We’ll be reading stories, learning facts about these fascinating animals, and using what we discover to inspire our own writing. The children will be practising their early writing skills by labelling pictures, writing simple sentences, and creating their own penguin fact files and stories.

As we move through the half term, we’ll also be getting ready for Christmas! The children will be busy learning songs and lines for our Nativity performance, and we can’t wait to share it with you. There will also be lots of festive crafts, stories, and activities to help us celebrate this special time of year together.

It’s going to be a very exciting and busy half term in Reception!

A note to parents

Here are just a few reminders  -

  • Please credit your child's account with £1 for the week to pay for the toast. If you prefer, your child can have a piece of fruit instead. There is no charge for fruit.
  • PE will take place on a Tuesday morning. Please make sure your child has a PE kit in school. All items of clothing must be labelled.
  • Please make sure that your child is bringing their own water bottle to school, preferably with a name label on it.
  • Children will be able to change their library book once a week and will be given home reading books once we have a built confidence using a collection of sounds.

Look at what we have been learning about in RE!
