Class 1

Welcome to Class 1

The Early Years class is taught by Miss Cheetham and Miss Hesketh

A very warm welcome to Class 1!
Our Early Years Class is taught by Miss Cheetham (Monday- Thursday) and Miss Hesketh (Friday). Miss Hesketh is the class TA on Monday - Wednesday mornings and Mrs Oakes will be with us on Thursdays.

We aspire to create a happy, safe and fun learning environment where our children are encouraged to develop their imagination, curiosity and sense of self. We whole-heartedly believe in creating a space which promotes children to develop a love of learning that will continue with them throughout their journey at St John’s Catholic Primary School. We have created our bespoke curriculum centred around the 7 areas of learning and adapt this according to Class 1’s interests.

Happy New Year and welcome back!
We hope you all had a lovely Christmas break and are ready for an exciting half term ahead.

This half term our topic is Space and Galilee to Jerusalem. We will be learning about the Magi (the Three Kings), exploring the long distance they travelled and studying the stars that guided them. Alongside this, we’ll enjoy lots of imaginative learning through stories such as Aliens Love Underpants, learning about astronauts, and building rockets.

As part of our mindfulness and RE learning, we will be focusing on showing love for Jesus, including learning about the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000.

In Literacy, we are very excited to be starting our Fantastic Drawing Club, designed to spark imagination, creativity and enthusiasm for storytelling and writing. RWI blending books and ditties will continue to be sent home regularly to support phonics learning—thank you for your ongoing support with these.

In Maths, we will be working on number bonds to 10, as well as exploring measuring height, length and weight through practical activities.

In PE, children will be developing their fielding and striking skills.
🟢 PE takes place on Tuesday mornings, so please ensure children come to school in their PE kit.

📚 Library books can be changed daily, so please remember to send them in when you can.

Thank you for your continued support—we’re really looking forward to a fantastic half term full of learning and fun! 🚀🌟

A note to parents

Here are just a few reminders  -

  • Please credit your child's account with £1 for the week to pay for the toast. If you prefer, your child can have a piece of fruit instead. There is no charge for fruit.
  • PE will take place on a Tuesday morning. Please make sure your child has a PE kit in school. All items of clothing must be labelled.
  • Please make sure that your child is bringing their own water bottle to school, preferably with a name label on it.
  • Children will be able to change their library book once a week and will be given home reading books once we have a built confidence using a collection of sounds.
