Welcome to Class 3!

A note from Mrs Williams…  I hope you all had an enjoyable half term week. We are all excited to be back with our new topic ‘Scrumdiddlyumptious’ and  we very much looking forward to a food based  half term! Please have a read of all the exciting lessons we have planned and below are just a few reminders!

P.E.   Swimming begins this half term on 2nd March- details and dates have been sent home separately. This will continue until the end of the academic year. We will continue enjoying one further P.E. lesson each week on Friday afternoons. Please ensure your child has a named P.E. kit in school - trainers and tracksuit bottoms are recommended  for outdoor lessons particularly in the cold weather. Thank you.

Spelling - Class 3 continues with the Spelling Shed Programme which embraces the knowledge of patterns and rules as well as the  learning of spellings from the statutory words, common exceptions and personal spellings.  Your child will be taught spelling daily in class and bring home a pattern / rule to focus on each week, their understanding will be assessed on a Thursday. Each child has a green spelling practice book to be taken home each week and copies are available of each groups list in the classroom. I hope your child is enjoying the online access  to games and fun activities on the website!

Reading Thank you to so many parents that are supporting your child’s reading at home. Please continue to listen to your child read as often as you can and record this in the blue Reading Record book. Your child will read with me in a focused Guided Reading group on a weekly basis, as well as on a daily basis within lessons. Each child is responsible for changing their own book when needed, within the stage they are on. We are focusing on detailed understanding and comprehension of texts this year so please try to talk about the main events of the story / characters in the book / where the story takes place/ what will happen next etc.  Each child should also have a Library book  and the opportunity is given once a week for this to be changed.

Times Tables—a separate letter will follow to the Year 4 children regarding the Multiplication Tables check in June.

Please encourage your child to learn their times tables as we practise them every week, all pupils have their own log in to TT Rockstars!

Snacks

Named water bottles and healthy snacks may be bought into school—toast is available and payable online. If you have any questions/concerns  or would like to discuss your child’s  academic or social progress please email me  or contact the office to make an appointment.

d.williams@burscough.lancs.sch.uk Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs Williams
